ALSHP Committees

Communicational Affairs

InPharmative Clinical e-Journal

  • Chair(s):
    • Elizabeth Covington, Pharm.D., BCIDP
    • Christen Freeman, Pharm.D., MBA, BCCCP, CNSC
  • Purpose: Develop a peer reviewed quarterly journal publication (ALSHP’s InPharmative Quarterly).
  • Main Functions: Review submitted articles, manuscripts, etc. for the development of the ALSHP InPharmaitve Quarterly publication.

Newsletter & Social Media

  • Chair(s): 
    • Arsa Shehu-Gega, Pharm.D., BCPS
  • Purpose: Serve as a constant and updated source of information for the membership.
  • Main Functions: Establish and manage ALSHP presence on social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIN). Develop and publish bi-monthly newsletter publications (ALSHP News). Review website content and provide updated information for Resource Page.

Educational Affairs

Programming

  • Chair(s): 
    • Sarah Blackwell, Pharm.D., BCPS, BCCCP
  • Purpose: Organizing and promoting educational and training programs
  • Main Functions: Plans and organizes educational content for meetings and webinars; collaborates with other councils or committees when their programming seeks to award continuing education credit; facilitates adherence to ACPE standards and assists with tasks required to maintain ACPE accreditation.

Research

  • Chair(s): 
    • James Miracle, Pharm.D., BCEMP
  • Purpose: Stimulate and encourage the development and promotion of research among the membership of ALSHP
  • Main Functions: host poster sessions, research forums at meetings or as standalone events

Review 

  • Convened under the direction of Whitney White, Pharm.D., BCPS, FASHP, FALSHP
  • Purpose: Peer-review of educational presentations to ensure quality and validity of content
  • Main Functions: review of educational programming for scientific validity, bias, appropriateness to audience, etc.

Legislative Affairs

Ambulatory Care

  • Chair(s):
    • Jessica Skelley, Pharm.D., BCACP
  • Purpose: Working group focused on collaborative practice, reimbursement, evolving practice models as well as other topics affecting ambulatory care pharmacy practice within the changing healthcare landscape in Alabama
  • Main Functions: Meet to discuss upcoming changes in collaborative practice, provide resources to those entering the collaborative practice process, share experiences with various practice models and how to adapt them to collaborative practice, identify opportunities for reimbursement of clinical services, identify legislative advocacy opportunities related to collaborative practice and reimbursement, and increase engagement of ambulatory care practitioners across the state with ALSHP

Legislative 

  • Chair(s):
    • None at this time
  • Purpose: Monitor proposed Federal and State legislation and proposed rules, changes, or additions by the State Board of Pharmacy and communicate to the membership.
  • Main Functions: 
    • Maintain a presence at ALBOP meetings to represent ALSHP and report important BOP-related information to the membership
    • Work with Advocacy Task Force to highlight legislative initiatives at federal and state level, promote pharmacy practice and resolve issues that affect the profession

Organizational Affairs

Membership

  • Chair(s): 
    • Mary Elizabeth O'Barr, Pharm.D.
  • Purpose: Develop and implement strategies to recruit and retain members of the association.
  • Main Functions: composing and disseminating member needs surveys, outreach efforts to those whose memberships have lapsed, serving as ambassadors for the society for our institutional enrollees, creating recruitment materials and brainstorming appropriate recruitment strategies, and obtaining feedback from current members on the best ways to continually improve the society. Collaboration with other committees is crucial to completing a variety of committee projects, and partnerships with other committees to accomplish shared goals is routine. Members typically meet monthly and communicate frequently via email to perform committee tasks and correspond between meetings.   

Social Events and Networking

  • Chair(s): 
    • Jerrica Eaton, Pharm.D.
  • Purpose: Facilitate events that allow for socialization and networking among members
  • Main Functions: planning and hosting social events at Annual Clinical Meeting and Summer Meeting and coordinating with pharmaceutical representatives to organize informational dinners for members. Regular collaboration with other committees is required to advertise events to current and prospective members. The chair or his/her delegate is the primary point person for pharmaceutical representative wishing to host an event. Members typically meet monthly or every other month and communicate frequently via email to perform committee tasks and correspond between meetings.

FALSHP Selection Committee

  • Chair(s): 
    • Brenda Denson, Pharm.D., BCPPS, FALSHP, FASHP 
  • Purpose: solicit candidates, review applications, and provide recommendations to the board for fellows of ALSHP.
  • Main Functions: comprised of ALSHP fellows which functions to review FALSHP candidates each year and provide recommendations to the Board. Participation on the committee will be a two-year term. The majority of the committees’ work will take place between July 1st when committee members are recruited and the Annual Clinical Meeting during which new fellows are inducted. During that time, communication is via email with meetings as necessary. 

Professional Affairs

Resident and New Practitioners Committee

  • Chair(s): 
    • Mary-Katherine Stuart, Pharm.D., BCPS
    • Ren Aranda, Pharm.D., BCPS
  • Purpose:
    • Support programming and services for resident pharmacists; provide programming of special interest to new practitioners; foster relationships among new practitioners and encourage their integration into membership roles within ALSHP
  • Main Functions:
    • Host the Alabama Residency Conference (ARC)
    • Coordinate new practitioner programming at Annual meetings
    • Host the Alabama Residency Showcase

Student Affairs

  • Chair(s): 
    • Pamela Stamm, Pharm.D., CDE, BCPS, BCACP, FASHP 
    • Alexandra James, Pharm.D., BCIDP
  • Student Co-chair(s):
    • Chigozie Joi Chinakwe (Auburn) and Macaleigh Mancuso (Auburn)
  • Purpose:
    • Support programming and services for student pharmacists; Support and interface with the ALSHP-affiliated SSHP at the Harrison College of Pharmacy (Auburn) and McWhorter School of Pharmacy (Samford)
    • Perform CE
  • Main Functions:
    • Coordinate with the Education Committee and meeting planners to provide student programming at other meetings, e.g., the Summer Meeting, or standalone student programs
    • CE at Summer Meeting is New Drug Update
    • Coordinate ALSHP-sponsored student awards

Technician Affairs

  • Chair(s):
    • None at this time
  • Purpose: Support programming and services for pharmacy technicians; outreach and promotion of ALSHP membership benefits to pharmacy technician; promote the professionalization of the technician workforce
  • Main Functions: Assist with planning and coordination of technician-focused programming, conduct outreach efforts to current and potential technician members

Pharmacy Leadership Forum

  • Chair(s):
    • Julie Lasseigne, Pharm.D.
  • Purpose: Facilitate networking and the exchange of ideas between the health-system pharmacy leaders of the state
  • Main Functions:  
    • Host the monthly Pharmacy Leadership Forum web meetings
    • Coordinate with meeting planners to host the Pharmacy Leaders Forum meeting (aka “Directors’ Meeting”) and the Reverse Exposition at the Annual Clinical Meeting and Summer Meeting
