Clinical Pharmacist Specialist Emergency Department #3166
The pharmacist provides quality pharmaceutical care by monitoring patients’ medication therapy and assist in developing a clinical pharmacy program. They will also recommend appropriate drug therapy and serve as an educational resource to patients and other health care professionals. The pharmacist also utilizes a computer system to enter orders, dispense medications and intravenous solutions to patients in an accurate and timely manner and supervises technical employees. The pharmacist checks all technical work before doses are dispensed.
Requirements
Education: PharmD. from an accredited School of Pharmacy, ASHP accredited residency (PGY-1), current BCPS certification, or equivalent direct clinical experience (with BCPS eligibility) required.
Experience: Health system experience preferred but not required.
Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations: Current licensure in the State of Alabama, controlled substances permit, parenteral license, preceptor license (when
eligible), BCLS provider (ACLS preferred).

Medication Access Pharmacist
The Medication Access Specialist is a key position in the medication use and acquisition process for high-cost infusions, specialty medication, and patient assistance use across the healthcare system. Responsibilities include proper utilization, acquisition, pharmacy revenue cycle, and use of patient assistance programs across the health care system. Supervision of the pharmacy revenue cycle and medication access teams. Responsibilities will include participation in the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, Denials Review Committee, Process Improvements Committees, and other committees as appropriate.
Requirements
Education: Pharm.D., ASHP Accredited Residency or Board Certification preferred.
Experience: None required.
Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations: Current licensure in the State of Alabama or licensed within 90 days of employment.
Equipment/Tools/Work Aids: Personal computer, Drug information software, EMR, Telephone, and copier.
Physical Requirements: Manual dexterity and visual acuity necessary to utilize the PC and calculator; visual acuity also necessary for filing and proofing; ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods; and verbal communication and hearing ability to communicate with a multitude of customers; ability to meet the attendance requirements of the job.

The pharmacy department plays an integral role in the healthcare team at East Alabama Medical Center (EAMC). A pharmacist ensures the safe and effective use of medication by providing medication order verification while assessing for optimal drug product selection, dosage regimen design, effective administration and drug therapy monitoring services. The pharmacist accepts responsibility, authority, and accountability for management and provision of care in accordance with the current EAMC policies and procedures. The pharmacist is responsible for leading efforts in the prevention and reporting of medication errors and adverse drug reactions according to policy and works to continuously improve process and practice in the institution to enhance safety of medication therapy. Staff pharmacists must maintain competence in all aspects of current clean room operations, aseptic techniques, and pharmacy standards including the safe handling of hazardous medications (USP <795>, <797>, <800>).
