    Inpatient Pharmacist - Full time

    Night shift, 7 on / 7 off

    The pharmacy department plays an integral role in the healthcare team at East Alabama Medical Center (EAMC). A pharmacist ensures the safe and effective use of medication by providing medication order verification while assessing for optimal drug product selection, dosage regimen design, effective administration and drug therapy monitoring services. The pharmacist accepts responsibility, authority, and accountability for management and provision of care in accordance with the current EAMC policies and procedures. The pharmacist is responsible for leading efforts in the prevention and reporting of medication errors and adverse drug reactions according to policy and works to continuously improve process and practice in the institution to enhance safety of medication therapy.             Job Title/Description: Clinical Pharmacist

            Exciting opportunity to be a part of implementing overnight pharmacy services at Athens-Limestone Hospital. Overnight Clinical Pharmacist position will be 7on/7off night shift coverage and include opportunities to assist in implementing clinical services across the hospital, as well as working on administrative projects. Monitors drug therapy to improve patient outcome and quality of care, recommends rational and cost-effective pharmacotherapeutic alternatives and provides accurate and efficient medication distribution.             Key Responsibilities:

            • Determines and recommends the most appropriate and cost effective drug therapy through a review of patient specific data and implementation of pharmacy protocols. 
            • Adequately evaluates patient data for potential drug-drug interactions, allergy data, height and weight, and pregnancy and lactation status as needed. 
            • Adequately staffs main pharmacy and pharmacy sterile products area. 
            • Documents clinical interventions and prevented medication errors. 
            • Ensures accuracy and timeliness of medications dispensed through the distribution system. 
            • Operates Pyxis and CII Safe efficiently. 
            • Demonstrates an understanding of state and federal laws governing the practice of pharmacy and practices the profession of pharmacy in a professional, legal, and ethical manner. 
            • Implements and evaluates nutritional support and pharmacokinetic regimens for designated patient population. 
            • Provides routine drug information to healthcare providers. 
            • Responds to Code Blue, Heart Alert calls and assumes responsibility for medications and drug information. 
            • Participates in staff development. 
            • Incorporates NPSG, medication safety, and the Joint Commission regulations into daily practice. 
            • Ensures that routine departmental functions are carried out in the absence of a manager. 
            • Adequately supervises pharmacy technicians.

            Requirements

            Completion of post-graduate pharmacy residency or equivalent clinical experience strongly preferred.

            License to practice pharmacy in Alabama required.

            Proof of current AHA BLS/ACLS must be provided or obtained by the end of the orientation period.
