NICU Clinical Pharmacist

Part time - Day shift (7-on/7-off)

A NICU Clinical Pharmacist is responsible for conducting clinical pharmacy services and ensuring that the pharmacy provides optimal clinical services on a daily basis. A NICU Clinical Pharmacist works with the clinical pharmacy director to facilitate the development, implementation, and maintenance of systems that promote desirable patient outcomes through the use of safe, cost-effective drug therapies.

Qualifications:

    • Graduate of accredited school of pharmacy (PharmD preferred).
    • Active and clear or eligible within 3 months of position for Registered Pharmacist License and Controlled Substances Permit in the state of Alabama.
    • PGY1 or 3 or more years of inpatient practice experience preferred.
    • Evidence of commitment to continuing education.
    • Ability to accurately perform computer order entry duties.
    • Proficient in needed pharmaceutical calculations and the metric system.
    • Knowledge of aseptic technique

      Overview Monitors drug therapy to improve patient outcome and quality of care, recommends rational and cost-effective pharmacotherapeutic alternatives and provides accurate and efficient medication distribution.         Job Description:

        Inpatient Pharmacist - 3rd Shift

        Night Shift

        The pharmacy department plays an integral role in the healthcare team at East Alabama Medical Center (EAMC). A pharmacist ensures the safe and effective use of medication by providing medication order verification while assessing for optimal drug product selection, dosage regimen design, effective administration and drug therapy monitoring services. The pharmacist accepts responsibility, authority, and accountability for management and provision of care in accordance with the current EAMC policies and procedures. The pharmacist is responsible for leading efforts in the prevention and reporting of medication errors and adverse drug reactions according to policy and works to continuously improve process and practice in the institution to enhance safety of medication therapy. Staff pharmacists must maintain competence in all aspects of current clean room operations, aseptic techniques, and pharmacy standards including the safe handling of hazardous medications (USP <795>, <797>, <800>).

          Evenings/Second Shift

          The emergency medicine pharmacist works cooperatively with the emergency department team including nursing, physicians, allied health and EMS staff to deliver safe, guideline directed and cost-effective care. The emergency medicine pharmacist ensures the safe and effective use of medication by providing medication order verification while assessing for optimal drug product selection, dosage regimen design, effective administration and drug therapy monitoring services.             Director of Pharmacy

            Cardinal Health manages the pharmacy at Marshall Medical Center South located in Boaz, AL. The director of pharmacy is responsible for overseeing all medication storage and preparation in the health system or organization. The director of pharmacy ensures that the pharmacy provides optimal services; meets all legal, accreditation, and certification requirements; and complies with all applicable policies, procedures, codes, and standards of the organization.

            Accountabilities

            • Develops and enforces policies and procedures that promote cost-effective, appropriate, and safe medication use.
            • Develops and maintains a medical staff-approved formulary.
            • Supervises medication storage and preparation areas throughout the facility.
            • Provides for the educational needs of health care professionals, patients, and their families.
            • Ensures maintenance of an adequate medication supply. Ensures the integrity of the medication supply. Establishes specifications for the procurement of medications, chemicals, and biologicals.
            • Ensures strict control and accountability for medications dispensed to patients or distributed to floor stock.
            • Assures adequate control and documentation of controlled substances.
            • Ensures applicable continuing education records and licensure are maintained in department files.
            • Supervises all pharmacy personnel and recruits, interviews, promotes, disciplines, and terminates pharmacy staff.
            • Develops job descriptions and performance standards. Evaluates and counsels staff on their performance.
            • Prepares work schedules and monitors workload statistics. Maintains an appropriate staffing level.
            • Provides for the educational needs of the pharmacy staff.
            • Prepares a pharmacy budget annually.
            • Reviews monthly financial statistics and plans expenditures within budget guidelines.
            • Monitors and justifies all expenses exceeding budgeted targets.
            • Ensures preparation and submission of patient charges and financial reports to administration in accordance with policy.
            • Administers reports, documents, payroll records, statistical surveys, and other required data.
            • Ensures compliance with health system policies and procedures that apply to pharmacy services.
            • Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.
            • Other duties as assigned.
            Qualifications
            • Graduate of an ACPE accredited School of Pharmacy with a BS Pharmacy degree or higher.
            • Must be a “good standing” licensed Pharmacist and/or eligible for licensure in the state of Alabama.
            • Experience in at least one of the following environments: hospital, inpatient, clinical, LTAC, rehab OR completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Residency.
            • Management experience highly preferred.
            • Oncology experience preferred.
            • 340B experience preferred.
            • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
            • Excellent organization, presentation and leadership skills.
            • Proven customer service skills.
            • Ability to work on call or be in an on call rotation.
