NICU Clinical Pharmacist

Full time - 7 on / 7 off day shift

Baptist Health is currently searching for candidates for a Clinical Pharmacist in Pediatrics/NICU. This position is an integral part of a decentralized clinical pharmacy team and progressive group of pharmacy leaders who provide comprehensive pharmacy services throughout the health system. Baptist Health is the largest healthcare system serving central Alabama, providing comprehensive hospital-based and outpatient services to nearly 60 percent of the residents in Montgomery, Autauga and Elmore counties. Baptist Health is comprised of three hospitals (Baptist Medical Center South- Level II Trauma Center, Baptist Medical Center East, and Prattville Baptist Hospital), the Montgomery Cancer Center, Crossbridge Psychiatric Facility and numerous physician clinics. Baptist Medical Center East is the primary delivery center for the region with approximately 3,800 deliveries per year.

The pediatric/NICU position is a 7 on/7off day shift position that is part of a 4 team member model with a rotating schedule to provide clinical pharmacy services to our 40 bed Level III NICU at Baptist Medical Center South as well as our 25 bed Level III NICU and Kids Korner at Baptist Medical Center East.

Activities Include:

  • Proficiently providing direct patient-centered for pediatric patients
  • Daily profile monitoring, interdisciplinary care rounds, pharmacokinetic and anticoagulation consults, daily monitoring and adjustments for parenteral nutrition consults
  • Participates in all aspects of the medication-use system while providing comprehensive and individualized pharmaceutical care as a member of the interdisciplinary team
  • Active membership and participation in multidisciplinary hospital committee is required as well as leadership in departmental clinical education and research activities
  • Work closely with Directors of Pharmacy and the System Director of Clinical Pharmacy Services to ensure appropriate workflow and practices in the pediatric care areas
  • This position is responsible for actively identifying service related issues which require evaluation and facilitating research projects, quality improvement initiatives, or healthcare provider education as needed to advance practice
  • They will serve as a preceptor for the Pharmacy Residency Programs and be an active member of the Residency Advisory Committee
  • Provides experiential mentorship for Doctor of Pharmacy students

In short, the Pediatrics Pharmacist will facilitate medication therapy and pharmacy services to the pediatric patient population and to collaboratively support direct patient-centered care.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy required, PharmD degree preferred. Completion of an ASHP-accredited residency program or a minimum of 3 years of experience.
  • Active Pharmacist license required or actively in the process of reciprocation to Alabama, or eligible and must be obtained within 3 months of hire to position. Alabama Controlled Substance license required, or obtained within 3 months of hire in position.
  • BCPS or BCPPS upon hire is preferred or working towards attainment of board certification within 2 years in position.
  • ACLS, BLS, PALS, and NRP required or attainment within the first 6 months of hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to accurately perform computer order verification and patient surveillance duties- Cerner, Sentri7, Omnicell, Insight RX (experience preferred)
  • Proficient in pharmaceutical calculations and the metric system.
  • Proficiency in pharmacokinetic calculations and parenteral nutrition management
  • Knowledge of aseptic technique and sterile compounding fundamentals
  • Ability to work within an interdisciplinary team to provide clinical recommendations for age appropriate pharmaceutical care
  • Evidence of commitment to continuing education and clinical expertise

Job Description:

Oncology Clinical Specialist

Full time - 7 on / 7 off shift

Huntsville Hospital is one of the largest not-for-profit hospitals in the nation with 971 licensed beds. We serve as a regional referral center for North Alabama and Southern Tennessee. Huntsville Hospital comprises three hospitals: Huntsville Hospital (the original institution), Huntsville Hospital for Women and Children, and Madison Hospital (opened in 2012). Huntsville Hospital’s adult oncology services include 33 inpatient beds, an adult outpatient chemotherapy infusion clinic, gynecologic oncology clinic and support for over 20 local oncologists. We also provide inpatient and outpatient pediatric hematology/oncology services, through our St. Jude affiliate clinic. We are looking for a highly motivated pharmacist to join our hematology/oncology pharmacy team. This rotating Inpatient and Outpatient Hematology/Oncology Clinical Pharmacy Specialist position will work in collaboration with three other oncology pharmacy specialists.

Activities include:

  • Be an integral part of a multidisciplinary team of oncologists, nurse practitioners, and nurses
  • Evaluate appropriateness and verify chemotherapy orders which includes extensive profile and lab reviews
  • Serve as the medication expert by providing drug information and ensuring the optimum use of medications
  • Provide patient education regarding chemotherapy and other medications
  • Represent department within several multidisciplinary committees
  • Involvement in formulary management, medication use, and drug policies for oncology-specific drugs
  • Involvement in departmental projects including process and quality improvement, cost minimization/optimization, and patient safety enhancement projects
  • Involvement with chemotherapy order-set approvals for implementation within the EMR
  • Core preceptor for PGY-2 Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Residency Program

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Current pharmacy license in the state of Alabama or eligible for Alabama pharmacy licensure.
  • Graduation from an accredited College of Pharmacy
  • Completion of PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice residency and PGY2 in oncology pharmacy, or equivalent experience, preferred
  • BCOP required within 2 years following hire
